Research PLD
V.E. Torres M.D. Medical articles written by Dr. Torres will
reveal most of the major research done today on Polycystic Liver Disease.
If there is a question or if you might need to know your PLD treatment options: a liver resection,
a liver transplant, a TAE, or conservative medical treatment, or nothing at all,
this is the physician to turn to. He has numerous published articles on polycystic organ disease,
particularly PLD Polycystic Liver Disease. One article in the PLD animal model shows a reduction liver cysts from sirolimus.
Listen to the informative PLD lecture below, given June 15, 2004 at a PKD conference. Dr. Vicente Torres has been the past chair of the scientific
advisory committee for PKD Polycystic Kidney Disease. He stepped down as the longest standing member
of the scientific advisory committee. He is Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension
at the Mayo Clinic Rochester MN USA. The Mayo Clinic Dept of Nephrology was just voted number one in the nation (USA) for the treatment of k
idney disease.
D M Nagorney M.D. His latest paper is Liver Resections for PLD Polycystic Liver Disease, the Mayo Experience - A long term follow-up.
Dr. Nagorney was the first surgeon to suggest a liver resection might be helpful for PLD Polycystic Liver Disease. He is a liver resection surgeon,
devoting himself exclusively to performing liver resections. If one is a candidate for a liver resection, this is the man to perform it. In his surgical
lifetime he has performed perhaps greater than 200 PLD liver resection surgeries.
Peter C. Harris, PhD ADPLD Study. If you have only liver cysts without any kidney cysts, it is likely that you probably have ADPLD,
autosomal dominant polycystic liver disease. For individuals without kidney cysts and only liver cysts, there is an
ongoing genetic study from the Mayo with Dr. Peter Harris, Dr. Torres and together with Yale University.
S. Somlo M.D. ADPLD Genetic Study does gene phenotyping of ADPLD.
This requires a donation of a test tube of your blood. It does not require travel. They
can mail the kit to you and you mail it back in a pre-paid envelope.
J P Drenth M.D. The Netherlands has begun lanreotide clinical trials in Europe. Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
Marie Hogan M.D. Dr. Hogan is currently heading up clinical trials on Octreotide and
chronic long term pain from PKD. Her latest research evaluates the treatment of chronic Pain in ADPKD.
Ubara M.D. in Japan has perfected the TAE procedure
for severe PLD polycystic liver disease.Department of Radiology,
Toranomon Hospital Kajigaya, Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan.
Tatyana Masyuk M.D. The treatment of PLD Polycystic Liver Disease will be explored with the current octreotide study.
