Yeast

Generalized Candida Albicans

Sometimes with a cystic liver we may get a craving for sweets. This comes from eating concentrated sugars, yeasted baked goods, alcohol, vinegars, alcohol ferments, or other things that might cause the candida, the yeast intestinal flora to over grow. The resulting population of yeast requires sugar for its growth. Oftentimes it demands sugars. These sugars are converted into alcohols as their waste. This is partly how wine is made. It is the conversion by yeast of sugar to alcohol. A similar thing happens with yeasted baked goods. In order to diminish a sweet tooth before the yeast overgrowth becomes a symptom, many have tried increasing alkalinity. Yeast will not survive in an alkaline environment. Below are some helpful remedies for yeast, candida albicans.

  • Hibiscus flower made into a tea has been used by the French to squelch candida overgrowth. Hisbicus UTIRose extract use achieved a 77% reduction in Candida Albicans.
  • Garlic contains anti-yeast compounds among them is a sulphur compound called allicin. Increase allicin by allowing crushed garlic to sit for 5-10 minutes before using it.
  • Oregano oil bested nystatin for immusuppressed children who had thrush at Johns Hopkins. Researchers tried the usual prescription medications to alleviate thrush vs. oregano oil. Oregano oil won hands down. It burns a little in the mouth so try a dried cherry to counteract the taste. Within three days my sweet tooth was gone.
Oregano oil contains 60% phenylpropanoids. Phenylpropanoids create unfriendly conditions to overgrowths of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. More importantly, phenylpropanoids clean the receptor sites on our cells so cellular communcation remains clear. Our hormonal system depends entirely upon clear communication throughout the body.
Hammer and colleagues investigated 52 plant oils for activity against nine bacteria and the yeast Candida using the agar diffusion method. Oregano oil was one of only three oils that inhibited the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a hard-to-kill bacterium that causes human wound infections. Overall, oregano oil was better at inhibiting germ growth than all oils tested except lemon grass oil. Oregano oil was effective at concentrations as low as 0.12 percent.
  • Potassium citrate prescribed by a urologist is a potent alkalizer. If this is not possible another solution would be to eat a plant based whole foods alkaline diet.
  • Probiotics or acidophillus is one solution. If you have severe liver cysts it is better to try another treatment or perhaps increase prebiotic vegetables.
  • Gentian violet is an old time remedy for yeast.
  • Nystatin is a remedy for yeast. As a liquid it is very sweet.
  • Diflucan (fluconazole) is very toxic to the liver.

Is there anything to diminish a sweet tooth?

Some have had success with remaining alkaline, eating roasted garlic, oregano oil under the tongue, a trial of prescribed potassium citrate, taking B vitamins, getting a daily shot of wheat grass juice or spelt grass juice or barley grass juice. All seem to diminish the craving for sweets. I found that if we can first wean ourselves from caffeine, this goes a long way toward alleviating a sweet tooth. A garlic roaster helps. Garlic roasters can roast about three heads of garlic at once. The entire process is finished within 27 minutes. Roasting garlic seems to remove the pungency from garlic and one is left with a sweet nuttiness. Some have tried daily carrot juice with added parsley, to diminish the craving for caffeine. With a handle on caffeine addiction, soon to follow is relief from a sweet tooth.
