PKD Dreams
We hold out the hope that sometime in the future, PKD will become one of the many things to test for at birth. Those found to have the gene will be given a diet so they will NEVER, EVER experience any decline in kidney function. This diet will not diminish symptoms but it will banish PKD symptoms from the earth, much like small pox has disappeared. Ours could be among the last of the generations that have to live with the consequences of declining PKD renal function. We could implement this today. Sure, it would be nice to have a pill or shot that treats PKD, without side effects, without effort on our part, but right now, today, we can do more through diet to prevent PKD symptoms for a majority of individuals born with PKD.
