Lycopene
Enjoy Foods High in Lycopene
It is a strong source for preventing cancer. People take lycopene for cancer of the prostate, breast, lung, bladder, ovaries, colon, pancreas; and for preventing heart disease, (atherosclerosis). It is especially useful for treating human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, a major cause of uterine cancer. Some people also use lycopene for cataracts and asthma. Lycopene is most known for its ability to prevent cancer cells from forming and clumping together within the body.
Gac (Momordica cochinchinensis Spreng) has the highest content of lycopene of any known fruit or vegetable, up to 70 times more than tomatoes. Gac is rare outside its native region of southeast Asia.
Lycopene is the bright red carotenoid pigment found in the reddish pigment of papaya and other fruits and vegetables, however lycopene is not present in strawberries, red bell peppers, or cherries.
