Thyme herb contains thymol an antiseptic; useful for treating toe nail fungus and one of the ingredients in mouthwash. It is anti-fungal; contains flavonoids like phenolic antioxidants zea-xanthin, lutein, pigenin, naringenin,(decreases cysts), luteolin, thymonin, with many minerals of potassium, iron, calcium, manganese, magnesium, selenium. Thyme also contains B-complex, beta carotene, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, vitamin C, folic acid. Thyme helps cleanse the internal organs.
Hildegard von Bingen the psychic who lived around 1000 A.D., used thyme for nervous disorders, leprosy and paralysis.
She stated,
"He who drinks a cup of thyme tea instead of coffee in the morning will soon feel the beneficial effect:
enlivened spirits, great comfort in the stomach, no coughing in the morning and an overall well-being."
The oil of thymol can be used in mouthwashes and in cough drops.
