Galangal is a rhizome with culinary and medicinal uses, best known in the west today for its appearance in Southeast Asia cuisine but also common in recipes from medieval Europe. It is known as Thai ginger. This rhizome does not seem to raise blood pressure whereas ginger has been noted to raise blood pressure by a few individuals. Galangal oil is also used regularly in various forms for anointing.
