PKD DIET

Artificial Sweetener

Avoid Artificial Sweetener, Aspartame

Artificial sweetener, especially aspartame produces a large amount of methanol. This methanol in aspartame coverts to formaldehyde, especially harmful for PKD/PLD.

Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many people who have eaten large amounts of aspartame over a long period of time and do not have PKU have been shown to have excessive levels of phenylalanine in the blood. Excessive levels of phenylalanine in the brain can cause the levels of serotonin in the brain to decrease, leading to emotional disorders such as depression. It was shown in human testing that phenylalanine levels of the blood were increased significantly in human subjects who chronically used aspartame.

Aspartame consumption is extremely harmful to people with diabetes. It makes it more difficult to control sugar levels and it aggravates diabetes-related conditions such as retinopathy, cataracts, neuropathy and gastroparesis. The sweetener also has been known to cause convulsions often wrongly mistaken for an insulin reaction.

We are  sharing our experiences with PKD/PLD Diet, an adjunct diet envisioning it complementing a physician's prescribed medical therapy. Consider testing this with your doctor's prior knowledge, who can  adjust it according to your own uniqueness by adding it to your current  treatment.
