Back Pain

Many come to experience back pain from carrying around huge cystic organs, sometimes weighing 40 pounds or more. This has been likened to carry around a forty pound sack of rice or potatoes. Here are some pain relieving suggestions.

Carrying around 40 pounds of cystic organs can create a strain on the back, the ribs, the hips and more. Some have tried the services of a chiropractor. We cannot take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin, or tylenol. These over the counter preparations can diminish kidney functioning. Some chiropractors use a strain vs. counter strain technique giving detailed exercises to prevent future episodes from occurring. Be sure that you do not have an aneurysm or other vascular abnormality before getting a manipulation by a chiropractor.

Bromelain, Papain, and Cherries: Strong Anti Inflammatories

Some have found cherries useful for joint pain; lemon juice for wrist and headache pain; papaya and pineapple can help with back pain. Papaya contains papain and pineapple contains bromelain, 2 anti-inflammatories. Others have tried supplements containing papain and bromelain.

Moist heat is relaxing when neck shoulders or back goes out. There is an expensive but effective moist heating pad called Thermophore moist heating pad that seems useful for diminishing pain. This heating pad stays hot as long as one depresses the button. Some have tried a zero gravity chair that tips the legs higher than the heart. This device moves cystic organs to a different position long enough to relieve discomfort. A few have questioned the use of  an inversion table. Some are cautious about this device raising blood pressure.

Some have tried saunas, great for diminishing toxins. Some courageous ones have tried hot tubs and long baths. Most nephrologists will caution against taking baths as they feel it can lead to frequent urinary tract infections. So far so good for me. I am addicted to baths and have not a UTI in many many years. Sometimes low back pain becomes chronic. Long-acting tapentadol, an experimental opioid, appears to relieve chronic low back pain. Constipation from taking opiods can be helped by subcutaneous injections of methylnaltrexone (Relistor) shown to relieve constipation caused by opioid treatment for noncancer pain -- often within four hours. If back pain continues for more than three days, some have obtained an MRI to check for a slipped disc, a herniated disc. Injection by an interventional radiologist with ozone has proved as useful as surgery.
