Octreotide Symptoms

Side effects octreotide, side effects lanreotide, side effects somatostatin, symptoms from octreotide, pkdiet.com

Here are a few symptoms with sandostatin octreotide LAR. Given every 28 days deep intramuscular. The initial dose was 40 mg, then it was decreased to 20 mg; then slowly increased to 30 mg and now 40 mg. I have been taking octreotide 40 mg in once monthly injections for polycystic liver disease. Both researchers and friends have said I look unusually thin and appear to be getting thinner. I had a severe episode of watery diarrhea with the first dose and my bleeding time, and bruising increased. The doctors (at the Mayo) thought this was due to malabsorption from the octreotide, a known side effect. I ate 3 cups of steamed broccoli for breakfast (combined with lemon juice one day and garlic the next). I ate 1 ounce of low fat cheese. I increased my dietary leafy greens. Usually, I eat a plant based diet. I also had a half cup of plain yogurt with added acidophilus powder about once a week. I ate poached egg yolk 3 times a week. I continued this diet modification for one month and re-tested my bleeding time. It was low normal. I now take one vitamin K occasionally. The absorption of the fat soluble vitamins, particularly vitamin K is not well absorbed. Vitamin K is manufactured in the intestines. Its absorption decreases when there is some malabsorption. I also take occasionally vitamin D-3 and vitamin E. I eat persimmons in season right now which are high in vitamin A. The following is a short list of some of symptoms with octreotide and what I did for it. Octreotide interferes with many of the enzymes needed by the body. Octreotide has hormone blockers that block not only hormones, but also blood sugar regulating hormones, pancreatic enzymes, gastrin, and many more. This is why octreotide is useful for diminishing breast cancers, liver cysts, neuroendocrine tumors all growths that contain hormone receptors triggering growth. Some suggestions:
WEIGHT LOSS:
Have your doctor try dropping the dose of octreotide then slowly increase it once again. To gain weight, I combined animal proteins and starches: nuts and grains, banana nut bread, cranberry nut bread, cream cheese date sandwiches, watercress sandwiches with cream cheese, avocado goat cheese sandwich, flageolets goat cheese artichoke bean casserole, cheese and bread (rarely). fish and rice (rarely). Try some of these recipes. I try to eat toast after 5 p.m. with a cup of roasted grain beverage like Yannoh, caro or roma, or caffix. If my weight really dropped, then I will even go so far as to have something with sugar or fructose in it to stimulate eating and weight gain. Normally I use tupelo honey as a sweeter. I found tupelo does not alter my cholesterol, triglycerides or goes the highs and lows of blood sugar, often present or accelerated by octreotide

RAPID BOWEL TRANSIT TIME OR DIARRHEA:
Three (3) patients in the initial Italian trial had severe watery diarrhea that resolved after the first dose
I eat blackberries and a small amount of cheese (less than one ounce only for the first month's dosage with the diarrhea. Blackberries and cheese are two foods I have noticed that tend to be binding. I have no diarrhea since perhaps April 2008.
BRUISING OR PROLONGED BLEEDING TIME:
I was told this could be related to the diarrhea and possible malabsorption of vitamin K from the intestines. I ate steamed broccoli every morning. I cooked the broccoli each morning in a rice cooker before taking a shower so by the time I was finished with my shower I was hungry and ready to eat 2-3 cups of steamed broccoli (with a bit of lemon one morning, a bit of garlic the next morning.) I ate one ounce of low fat cheese, sometimes this was cottage cheese, only for about 2- 3 weeks (as prescribed by Dr. Torres; I increased my leafy greens; I drank a quarter of a cabbage juiced daily. I take vitamin K perhaps once a month. Since October I have had any increase in bruising or bleeding or spontaneous bleeding into my digital finger blood vessels. I have also been taking vitamin E occasionally at night.
LEG CRAMPS
I stretch at night by pressing my heels downward and pointing my toes upward to prevent Charlie Horses. This too has not been a problem since the diarrhea stopped and I started taking vitamin E about twice a week at night just before bed.
INCREASING TIREDNESS WITH GRUMPINESS
I drink the juice of one lemon each morning or some mornings dilute lemon juice in water to make a quarter cup. I take one drop of solé in a full glass of mineral water daily. I try to get essential amino acids daily by drinking freshly pressed cabbage juice. I try to get all my essential fatty acids by taking either hemp seed oil capsules or chia seed oil capsules. Because of my cystic liver I cannot take flax or fish oil. It increases my liver growth. Sometimes I take vitamin B complex and folic acid. I do not take vitamins after 2 p.m. as these seem to prevent me from getting a full night's sleep. If I am especially restless and unable to sleep, I will take a hot bath, and calcium citrate (citrate exerts a slight alkalinity) at night or one ounce of grape juice diluted with two ounces of mineral water. This seems to activate my own precursor to melatonin, tryptophan. Sometimes I just take naps in the afternoon. I try to walk or go to the gym in the mornings when I seem to have my most energy. As the sun goes down so do i. My husband notices that immediately or about 3 days following my injections I am really tired and require afternoon naps. He thinks this has been increasing. When I get tired I become very cranky.
VERTIGO DIZZINESS AND THE ROOM SPINNING
I avoid eating any gummy bears or jelly like candy, i.e. dots, jujubes, fruit roll ups, fruity candies that are chewy. I have had one severe episode where the room was spinning. I was sitting still. I had to crawl to the bathroom on all fours because I became extremely nauseated and vomited until there was nothing left but the dry heaves. This passed eventually. The vertigo episode has not been repeated.
TREMORS
Sometimes if I forget to eat, I get slight tremors of my fingers. They have a fine shake or trembling. I am 61 y/o so this might be related in part to aging. I drink or eat carrot juice or carrots and this seems to help this. It is a feeling that I do not welcome. It makes me feel funny.

PREPARATION OF THE INJECTION POWDER GIVEN DEEP INTRAMUSCULAR INJECTION EVERY 28 DAYS
Bring everything to room temperature: dilutant, powder, needles, syringes. Use an alcohol wipe to clean the top of the powder. For better visualization, remove all stickers from the powder bottle. Insert a large bore needles on the end of the dilutant liquid. Without inverting the bottle, draw up the liquid dilutant and inject it into the powder. Allow it to soak the octreotide powder for a full 15 minutes undisturbed. Then gently whirl the contents of dilutant and powder together, careful not to allow the mixture to touch the top of the bottle. DO NOT INVERT. By inverting the bottle the little timed release polymers can break. This prolongs the absorption of octreotide over 28 days, much like the little colored beads that can be seen in some medications. When the mixture appears to be dissolved, carefully swirl once again and fill syringe. Prick the skin quickly and place the injection needle all the way to the hub of needle deep within the tissue. Give the injection and massage the area for a bit. Repeat on the other side. Massaging helps the medication to absorb rather than staying just locally in the injected tissue. Use a Band-Aid over the site, in case of bleeding.
