SURGERY PAIN
Plain darvon banned by the FDA
For
post surgical pain relief, sometimes an indwelling epidural catheter is
left in place for 3 days following surgery. This results in a totally numb
feeling from the lower abdomen to the tops of the thighs. For some, narcotic
pain medication can bring on extreme nausea or constipation. For others this is a very good means of releving post operative pain. Here are a few articles about intrathecal fentanyl and morphine.
Following my liver resection, some 15 years ago, the doctors tried to find some pain relief medication that would not affect either my kidneys or liver adversely. After much discussion they tried plain darvon. This worked well for me. Darvon and darvon compounds have been banned by the FDA due to a higher incidence of heart events associated with taking darvon. For others perhaps a morphine drip might be better.
