Veronica officinalis
Veronica officinalis was used as a replacement for tea during war times. Veronica is an herb that some have used for quieting liver cysts and kidney cysts. Veronica is named not for a legendary beauty, but for an 18th century botanist. An herb with bright blue or lilac flowers, the plant is found throughout Europe, parts of Asia, and North America. Veronica's above-ground parts are considered medicinal, but the only physical effect researchers have found to date is a tendency to prevent ulcers and to speed ulcer healing. To prepare a tisane: pour boiling water over 2 teaspoons of crushed herb; steep, strain and sip. The taste is pleasant. No known drug interactions.
According to wikipedia
The slightly bitter and astringent taste and tea-like smell of speedwell led to its use as a tea substitute
in 19th-century France, where it was called the d'Europe, or "Europe tea." The French still use this term as a
name for speedwell. Veronica officinalis herb has been used in the traditional Austrian medicine internally
(as tea) for treatment of disorders of the nervous system, respiratory tract, cardiovascular system, and
metabolism.
