Methanol

Methanol is a simple alcohol. It is light, volatile, colorless, flammable liquid with a distinctive odor very similar to that of ethanol (drinking alcohol). However, unlike ethanol, methanol is highly toxic and unfit for consumption. It is highly toxic in humans. Drinking as little as 10cc can damage the optic nerve causing blindness. Drinking more can lead to death.

Canned, bottled, commercially prepared foods are all high in methanol. Once long ago, I tried to reduce my liver size by drinking organic bottled juices. This was when I got the fastest and the most growth of my PLD liver. I later discovered it was from methanol.

Pasteurization was invented for beer and wine (heated). Pateurization:
Do not kill ALL harmful micro-organisms
Destroy active enzymes in food
Diminish the vitamin content of food
Denature fragile milk proteins
Kill beneficial bacteria

Foods ↑ methanol

aspartame
cigarettes
bottled, canned, or juices in pouches
black currant/tomato juice
smoked fish meat
sugar free chewing gum
alcohol from overly ripe or near rotting fruits/vegetables

Bottled/Canned Juice

Canned or bottled or pasteurization of juices ↑ methanol by staggering amounts. It is this, methanol from organic bottled juices, that can give the largest & fastest growth ever of liver cysts. Artificial sweetener, especially aspartame produces a large amount of methanol. The methanol in aspartame coverts to formaldehyde, harmful for PKD/PLD.

Canned juices also contain BPA along the sides of the cans. Absent in all but a handful of foods, methanol does not appear in the primitive diet of the Pleistocene and is almost unheard of in the diet of present day foragers. Its presence is insignificant in most major human food staples such as milk, cheese, fish, meat, eggs, fresh vegetables, beans, and any of the many grains or grain products.

Methanol found in:

Antifreeze
Canned heating sources
Copy machine fluids
De-icing fluid
Fuel additives (octane boosters)
Paint remover or thinner
Shellac
Varnish
Windshield wiper fluid
In the atmosphere

Tomatoes, even fresh, contain methanol. The French and the Italians have an answer for their tomato sauce, they slow cook it a long time with the lid ajar! (3-4 hours). Caution, methanol is a clear liquid. Some travelers think they are getting gin when it is methanol. Death can occur. Ethanol is used to treat Methanol poisoning. Ethanol ↓ formic acid, ↓ metabolic acidosis, the cause of death from methanol toxicity.

Deaths have occurred when unsuspecting travelers have drunk methanol (a clear liquid) while thinking it was gin or tequila or vodka. Deaths have been reported from travelers to Indonesia drinking mixed alcoholic drinks. The American Chemical Society (ACS) has found that some tequila contains methanol (wood alcohol) that can make you go blind & cause permanent neurological damage (Parkinson's, MS), not to mention giving you a nasty hangover.
