Not surprisingly, people who eat a fair amount of cruciform vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale and cauliflower tend to have less cancer than those who don't consume cruciferous vegetables. Researchers have conducted many studies that indicate a strong connection between indoles and cancer. Broccoli is a rich source of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), which the body converts into 3,3'-diindolylmethane DIM during digestion. It was found that androgen-dependent cancer cells (such as prostate cancer cells) treated with a solution of IM (Diindolylmethane) grew 70 percent less than untreated cells. However, androgen-independent cells were not affected by the DIM solution. Similar studies have verified the same results with estrogen dependent breast cancer cells.
Liver cysts have estrogen receptors. For this reason, daily consumption of broccoli, cabbage, or kale is indicated. DIM ((Diindolylmethane) contained in broccoli sprouts are said to increase the metabolism of estrogen through the liver. CAUTION Do not take if you are taking immunosuppressive medications. Before starting DIMs, check your thyroid functioning. If you have a thyroid condition inform your doctor and ask if you can eat the cruciform family of vegetables. Cooking for 30 minutes significantly reduces the amount of goitrogens.

Sprouts Better Than Fully Grown Vegetable?
In 1997 Johns Hopkins researchers made a great discovery. They found that 4 day old broccoli sprouts had 20-50 x the cancer preventing components that full grown plant had. This became known as DIMs (Diindolymethane) and sulforaphane.
