Enjoy Fresh Coconut

Coconut milk is used throughout Asian cooking to make curries and various dishes. It is a good alternative to animal based milks and one of the few alkaline nuts. Its water is refreshing and said to mimic the same mineral content as human serum.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is beneficial and refreshing on a warm day. If you enjoy fresh young coconut water, this can be beneficial for the kidneys, for PKD kidneys. Some of the medical articles from the pulldown menu below speak about coconut water being beneficial for depression, for inflammation, and it has been used to replace intravenous saline when supplies have run dry.

Avoid Fermented Coconut Water

An alcoholic sap derived from incising the flower clusters of the coconut is drunk as the sun sets by many in third world countries. It is called neera, also known as tuba (Philippines), tuak (Indonesia and Malaysia) or karewe in Kiribati. When left to ferment on its own, it becomes palm wine. Palm wine is distilled to produce arrack. In the Philippines, this distilled alcoholic drink is called lambanog or coconut vodka.

Avoid Coconut Sugar and Oil

Controversy surrounds the use of coconut oil and coconut sugar. This controversy is heightened by physicians who are not sure as to what to recommend their patients use coconut oil or olive oil–some recommend olive oil. Their recommendations are based on what they know regarding their patient's illness and dietary needs.

Coconut oil is used for cooking, as a suntan lotion, as an additive to lotions, creams, shampoos and in cosmetics. Coconut oil is a palm oil. There is conflicting information about coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is removed from coconut milk by a process called wet extraction, largely free of refining. However copra oil is extracted from dried coconut meat and requires some amount of chemical refining, bleaching, and deodorizing.
