PKD DIET

Berry

Enjoy Berries

Berry exceptions to be avoided are strawberries, blueberries (whole fruit), cranberries (whole fruit).

Berries are anti-inflammatory; they are low in calories and nutrient dense; they are helpful for brain functioning. With blueberries, cranberries, chokeberries, bilberries, it is best to drink the juice and avoid the fruit which is too high in oxalates. This can cause an increase in uric acid and high uric acid is prevalent in PKD. Strawberries have little seeds that can become entrapped within intestinal diverticuli, also common with PKD. Diverticuli of the intestines are small out pouching like depressions within the colon. Once trapped a seed becomes inflamed its capable of increasing pain, bloating to the point of a medical emergency sometimes requiring surgery.

Favorable Effects Upon Platelets, BP, HDL Cholesterol

Berry consumption has favorable affects upon platelet functioning (useful with PLD!), upon blood pressure, and upon HDL cholesterol levels. This includes all dark berries and even grapes.

We are  sharing our experiences with PKD/PLD Diet, an adjunct diet envisioning it complementing a physician's prescribed medical therapy. Consider testing this with your doctor's prior knowledge, who can  adjust it according to your own uniqueness by adding it to your current  treatment.
