I
am in a panic, I have just found out I have PKD. What are effective treatments that will MAINTAIN HEALTHY cystic kidneys?
Are there any FOODS that will affect polycystic
kidney disease?
What is the ALKALINE DIET ? What is a typical days menu on the ALKALINE
DIET? How can I test my URINARY pH?
What does POTASSIUM CITRATE do?
I have LIVER CYSTS, What can I do?
Does a tighter blood pressure control help?
What are things, which can one do to LOWER
BLOOD PRESSURE?
What
can be done to ease ITCHING ?
What can be done to DELAY DIALYSIS?
Is there anything to do for PAIN?
Are there any HERBS
which are harmful to kidneys or liver?
What about the MDRD study? The Chinese have taken up this study. They are conducting it out of a desperation. In many of the world's poorer countries, as kidneys cease functioning, dialysis or transplant out of reach financially. They do not have the money to pay for such treatments. I read with delight a story titled SAVING FAILING KIDNEYS published in the Malaysian Times.
This is an early preliminary report of an ongoing 17-center study with 18,000 patients. They are discovering early, late, or in the middle there is a choice –
• Eliminate dietary animal proteins
• Control blood pressure with ACE inhibitors
• Drop the protein intake to 0.3 – 0.6 grams per kilogram per day
• Supplement with EAA essential amino acids (the biggest manufacturer of these ferments is Ajinomoto).
• Supplement with an alkalizer
• Treat anemia
By doing all of these things individuals stop spilling protein in their urine, an early sign of nephrotic syndrome. The Chinese, the Malay are not too different from US citizens; many prefer Kung Pao Chicken to a life without this. I too spill protein in my urine. I have experienced that the protein in my urine lessens as my dietary protein decreases. If I remain alkaline, proteinuria is zero; blood pressure is well controlled without any medications.
