For those wishing to take pea protein powder this is a good alternative that will lower blood pressure in the PKD model. It positively affects the renin-angiotensin system in ADPKD. A 3-week randomized double blind placebo-controlled crossover human intervention trial (7 volunteers) showed similar results.
In 2009 R.E. Aluko MD presented at paper on pea protein hydrolysate.
A pea protein hydrolysate (PPH) with renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activities was used as a potential modulator of the
renin-angiotensin system. The diet of rats that have polycystic kidney disease (PKD) was supplemented with 0.5 and 1% levels of the PPH during an
8-week feeding trial. Blood pressure was determined weekly from 4-8 weeks while urine output was measured on week 8. Results showed that the
PPH significantly (p<0.05) reduced blood pressure that is associated with PKD.
Dr. Aluko cautioned that simply eating garden peas won't lower blood pressure. The pea protein must first be treated with special enzymes to unlock the protein's potential. One plus: the extracted protein won't cause flatulence or stomach discomfort; it lacks the complex plant sugars found in fresh peas.
I am a whole foods type of person and enjoy eating fresh peas. I find that after eating peas there is no flatulence produced and they are so tasty especially when picked fresh from the garden.
Pea protein hydrolysate acts similar to blood pressure medication called ACE inhibitors. There are some locally manufactured brands of pea protein hydrolysate powder that might be preferable than purchasing some that travel a distance.

Pea protein contains an ideal combination of essential amino acids for sports performance:
Lysine, for balanced nitrogen levels in muscles
Arginine promotes muscle metabolism and a healthy heart
Glutamine helps restore nitrogen balance after a heavy workout
Leucine, isoleucine and valine (branched-chain amino acids) help maintain tissues during exercise
Some users find soy, whey and other protein powders difficult to digest, but because of its unique composition, pisum sativum or pea protein has been found to be amongst the most digestible source of protein available and it has been shown to produce the least allergic reactions. Some have found the NOW brand useful.
