Avoid Fish, Especially Oily Fish

Fish contains high levels of mercury, pesticides and herbicides from farm crops. When mercury levels become too high chelation therapy may have to be begun by your physician. if we continue with our current course of fish oil supplementation the world will be depleted of fish in the next 40 years.

A vegan source for omega-3's can be found in: hempseed or chia seed, two other sources. Eating the leafy vegetable purslane is also a source of essential fatty acids.

The main problem with fish oil supplements is it causes our PLD liver cysts to grow and our PLD livers to ache. Fish odor can result after ingesting fish oil supplements especially when coupled with carnitine supplements. Carnitine is found normally in meats.

Fish has a high mercury (potent metalloestrogen) content; some species of fish are endangered; and if you have liver cysts eating fish can prove to be detrimental from mercury's cumulative toxic effects. However consuming fish also can provide the body with valuable selenium. It is a balance that each of us must determine for ourselves. Many have noticed that as we age eating fish causes us to spill more proteins in our urine. If you choose to eat fish, opt for fish lower in mercury and lower in fat, less than 1.5% of fat.

Once the gallbladder has been removed, usually following a liver resection or a transplant, lower fat meals are preferable to help minimize symptoms. Farmed fish, especially salmon, pollute our waterways further and contaminate fish in the wild. Chlorine bleach from city water dumped into waterways is causing certain susceptible fish to develop dual sexual organs.

Shellfish

Shellfish are generally bottom feeders and as such absorb more of the herbicides, mercury, and chemicals polluting our waters. Certain shellfish may have a low fat content but their cholesterol content makes them harmful.

Fish Low in Fat and Not Endangered

Hake, Pollock, Sole, are all fish that are low in fat. If using the app, Seafood Watch by Monterrey Aquarium, then when these are fished in parts of the USA they are also not endangered.

If I am Pregnant and Advised to Eat Fish, What Can I eat?

Try and ask your doctor. A website for this in addition to your own doctor's recommendations is: Fish eaters beware! European report warns of mercury threat. Salmon in high in fat, low in mercury. However, farmed salmon may contain chemicals, PCB's, with serious long term effects. Do not eat salmon.

Smoked Fish and Meat

Fish and meats are traditionally smoked by long, slow exposure to the condensation products of heated wood or wood chips in the exact manner one would manufacture methanol, also called wood alcohol. A fire purposely set to produce smoke simultaneously liberates large amounts of methanol. The way food is conventionally smoked in countries like Scotland and Ireland produces excellent flavor but extremely high methanol, particularly if peat is used to generate the cooking heat, since peat smoke contains up to three times more methanol than wood smoke. It is, therefore, no coincidence that in countries where you find the highest incidence of multiple sclerosis, you also find these traditional methods of food processing that can result in large methanol dosing. Scotland, where traditionally smoked food is often consumed at every meal, has the highest incidence of MS anywhere in the world.

The Faroe Islands were settled by the same basic stock of people, but because there is little wood and no peat in this location, air drying is used to preserve fish and meat. This may help explain why multiple sclerosis was never recorded there until the English navy introduced cigarettes and canned fruits and vegetables during the Second World War.
