PKD DIET

cAMP

Avoid ↑ cAMP

Cyclic adenosine monophosphate or cAMP ↑ is associated with an increase in PKD cyst formation. This in turn results in kidney growth and decreased kidney functioning. Cyst activating factor results in increased cAMP production.

Caffeine inhibits the breakdown of cyclic AMP. An increase in cAMP results in more circulating cAMP, increasing cyst growth creating more cysts—increasing organ size and symptoms. Cyclic AMP in kidney cells is thought to increase cyst growth by promoting proliferation of cells lining cysts and promoting fluid secretion into cysts cavities. Cyclic AMP is produced in kidneys to a major extent in response to blood levels of the hormone vasopressin. Vasopressin production, by the brain, is stimulated by water deficit and suppressed by water excess.

We are  sharing our experiences with PKD/PLD Diet, an adjunct diet envisioning it complementing a physician's prescribed medical therapy. Consider testing this with your doctor's prior knowledge, who can  adjust it according to your own uniqueness by adding it to your current  treatment.
