Broccoli

Enjoy Broccoli

This is an especially useful vegetable when ones kidneys have taken a sudden downward turn. The vitamin K2 in broccoli is a powerhouse nutrient for aiding ailing kidneys. Broccoli is a potent anti-oxidant and helps to flush out an overabundance of acids from the body system, especially uric acid and oxalic acid. This aids the kidneys further in completing its job of purifying the internal body.

Broccoli sprouts maintain the integrity of DNA thwarting the second hit phenomenon associated with ADPKD. The sprouts increase the metabolism of estrogen through the liver diminishing PLD symptoms. Put aside for two weeks prior to any surgery. Broccoli is another super food that is really beneficial for the treatment of kidney disease. It is also high in vitamin K. Individuals who consume Vitamin K vegetables have a lower incidence of difficulties with calcification of their vessels as kidney functioning begins to decline.

Broccoli sprouts, contain DIM (Diindolylmethane). Dim is an indole phytochemical that is a natural metabolic of compounds found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cabbage. Broccoli sprouts, part of the cruciferous family of vegetables, is rich in sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Broccoli extract naturally contains high amounts of indoles, which are known for their ability to deactivate certain types of estrogen that are linked to cancer.

Not surprisingly, people who eat a fair amount of vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kale and cauliflower tend to have less cancer than those who don't consume cruciferous vegetables. Researchers have conducted many studies that indicate a strong connection between indoles and cancer. Broccoli is a rich source of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), which the body converts into 3,3'-diindolylmethane DIM during digestion. It was found that androgen-dependent cancer cells (such as prostate cancer cells) treated with a solution of DIM (Diindolylmethane) grew 70 percent less than untreated cells. However, androgen-independent cells were not affected by the DIM solution. Similar studies have verified the same results with estrogen dependent breast cancer cells.

Liver cysts have estrogen receptors. For this reason, daily consumption of broccoli, cabbage, or kale is indicated. DIM ((Diindolylmethane) contained in broccoli sprouts are said to increase the metabolism of estrogen through the liver. CAUTION Do not take if you are taking immunosuppressive medications. Before starting DIMs, check your thyroid functioning. If you have a thyroid condition inform your doctor and ask if you can eat the cruciform family of vegetables.

Broccoli Rabe, Rapini

Brassicaceae (mustard family). Rapini is as Brassica rapa. It is in the same subspecies as the turnip, but has also been treated as Brassica rapa ruvo, Brassica rapa rapifera, Brassica ruvo, and Brassica campestris ruvo. It is a cruciferous vegetable with similar health giving benefits.

Sprouts Better Than Fully Grown Vegetable?

In 1997 Johns Hopkins researchers made a great discovery. They found that 4 day old broccoli sprouts had 20-50 x the cancer preventing components that full grown plant had. This became known as DIMs (Diindolymethane) and sulforaphane.
